How is This Justice?!!

For anyone who's been reading my blog, you'll recall an entry almost a week ago about vegan parents jailed for killing their son unintentionally based on dietary problems.

If you read that, and agreed with my point of view at all, then you'll be disturbed (to say the least) to know about the man who's not getting jail time after to admitting killing a two year old boy 17 years ago. Curtis Williams copped a plea deal, and will now walk with time served - only 20 months. The boy was his son.

Williams had told his ex girlfriend, the boy's mother, that he had lost the boy years ago while shopping in Newark. She had clung to the hope of seeing her son again, thinking that he had been alive. She clung to the hope that her son's father had him but didn't want her to see him, but that he was alive and well.

What really happened was that two year old Curtis McCoy had been beaten to death by his father, and Williams then buried his body. He walked because there was no forensic evidence linking him to the crime, only the boy's mother's testimony and him telling the police and prosecutors what happened and where the body was.

How is this justice? The boy was killed in a fit of rage by his father, then buried and lost until now. He wasn't properly mourned by the people who care about him, he didn't get the respect that he deserved as someones son, as a little boy who was probably scared to death those last moments of his life.

But we'll send a couple to jail for the rest of their lives for doing what they thought was best for their child and unintentionally starving him to death. Curtis Williams killed his son with his hands, lied about it, then hid him from the world, and will be back in society with no real punishment for his crimes.

This is American Justice.
