Why is this any of my business?

Everyone's heard about it by now, right? No? Well, let me enlighten you.

Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger have been going through some seriously hostile divorce proceedings, and they are splitting custody of their daughter, Ireland. Alec is supposed to call his daughter twice a day to talk to her as part of this agreement, and they have set times that he calls. Eleven o'clock in the morning, and ten o'clock at night. Well, these times don't seem to be convenient for little Ireland.

Alec called Ireland one day and she, being the 11 year old girl that she is, chose not to answer the phone. Since her dad had been calling with the same result every time he dialed her number, he got mad. He told her that she's spoiled and embarrassing him, since he has to jump through hoops to call her and she doesn't have the courtesy to answer her phone. He called her spoiled and rude, and a pig. He said that when he came up to see her in February he was going to "straighten her out" because this is not how she should treat her father. Well, this tape became part of evidence in the divorce proceedings between Alec and Kim, and of course, got leaked to the media. This tape is supposed to show "evidence of his temper" - but all I see is an angry parent whose child doesn't listen to or respect him.

TMZ.com released this story along with an audio of the message that was sent to Ireland, and after listening to the Today show, TMZ, some radio jockeys, and my friends, I can't help but to wonder....what's the problem with this? If I knew my parent was planning on calling me at a specific time every day and I never picked up, they would have done more than "Straighten me out" at that age - I would have gotten my as$ beat, and rightfully so. I was expected to respect my parents and this child clearly doesn't. Well, not her father, anyway.

The real question here is going to be what happens in court? Kim and her daughter released sealed evidence to the media strictly for the purpose of defaming his character or embarrassing him. I don't think that they showed evidence of bad parenting or a bad temper, just of a man who may have been pushed a little further than he should have been.
